Managing the guages on a page
The gauge list (top right grid) is populated with the list of gauges on a page when you select the page. For a new page this list will obviously be empty.
Add a new gauge
Press the ‘Add Gauge’ button. You will see a pick list of [gauge types] to choose from. You can either double click the gauge type, or select it and press the OK button. This will create a new gauge of the chosen type and add it to the end of the gauge list.
The gauge will be added with some default parameters. For example, the ValueGauge will be added with the ‘rpm’ attribute specified.
You can edit the name of the gauge using the inline editor in the grid. Gauge names do not have to be unique but it obviously helps once you have a few gauges of a particular type on the page.
Clicking on a gauge name in the gauge list will populate the bottom right grid with the set of properties for the gauge. Note that in some cases, properties will appear that have no effect on the gauge. Although any value you enter will be saved, these can just be ignored. See the gauge types section for information about which properties are valid for each gauge type.
Deleting a gauge
Select the gauge you want to delete and press the delete gauge button.
This action cannot be undone.
Exporting a gauge
To export a gauge, use the right click menu on the gauge list.
Use this if you want to move a gauge definition to a different page, different pageset, or want to duplicate the gauge on the current page. You will be asked for a filename. You can build a library of gauges by saving them with sensible names - by default exported gauges are saved using the ‘xmg’ extension and will be stored in the \exports folder on the device.
Importing a gauge
Also on the right click menu. Enter the filename of the gauge to import, and it will be added to the end of the gauge list.
Setting Gauge Properties
The properties for the gauge are set using inline editing on the properties grid. Many properties are numeric and just need to be typed in. Some gauges have picklists or other dialogs, which are accessed using the ellipsis on the right of the cell. These include;
- scripts (opens the script editor)
- colours (opens the OS colour picker)
- images (opens the media chooser)
Moving gauges around the page
You can enter GaugeX and GaugeY values directly into the cells and the gauge will be moved. Also, you can use the four arrow buttons to move the gauge around. Choose the step size from the list below (1,5,50,100 pixels). Use the larger step to get somewhere in the ballpark, and reduce the step size as you get it closer to where you want it.
Other
The “Resync” button does a complete redraw of the screen. You might need this sometimes, if the screen doesn’t update fully after a change of some sort. In the worst case scenario, if you think changes are not showing up properly, save the pageset and reboot the device using the ‘Use Selected XML’ button.
